The Best of 2018 | Top 10 Posts

Happy New Year my friends! It’s hard to believe that 2018 is over, but I am excited to see what 2019 has in store. I’m not going to lie, this year has taken its toll on me in more ways than one but I am recognizing the positives and looking forward to a fresh start with 2019! But before we dive into the New Year, let’s take a look back at the best of 2018 with my top 10 posts of the year. Collage highlighting "The Best of 2018: Top 10 Posts" from Garrison Street Design Studio. Includes home office, outdoor dining, closet, plant decor, and cozy backyard settings.

10. How to Hang a Modern Barn Door A sleek gray barn door on a sliding rail system stands partially open, unveiling a closet brimming with clothes. Text overlay reads, "Modern barn door tutorial" and "www.GarrisonStreetDesignStudio.com" at the bottom.

Coming in at number ten is my Modern Barn Door tutorial. It has been close to a year since we hung the barn doors in our bedroom and bathroom and I have no regrets. These sleek doors were the perfect solution to the limited space we were working with.

9. A Real Home Office

A two-panel image of a DIY home office setup with IKEA furniture. The top panel displays an IKEA desk hack featuring a sleek white desk with a computer and lamp. The bottom panel adds shelves, wall art, and a chair. Text reads "DIY Home Office IKEA Hack.

Even though we completed our home office several years ago, it is still a fan favorite. For me, this is one of my favorite projects we have done. Before we tackled this space, the door was often left closed because it was just that bad. Our Ikea makeover completely transformed this room into a highly functioning dual home office.

8. Ikea Marius Stool Hack

A collage showcases a Marius stool paired with a concrete paver, illustrating a creative DIY table hack. The finished side table sits beside a white sofa with geometric pillows, adorned with a candle holder and glass of wine.

This simple Ikea Hack was a priceless solution for my numerous end table needs in our backyard makeover. When I say simple, I mean simple! Anyone could do this and it only took a few minutes and not a lot of money. I have since also added one to our front porch.

7. Casual Modern Backyard Patio Reveal

A modern backyard patio with white seating, geometric-patterned cushions, a wooden coffee table, plants, and decorative items. A dining table set with cylindrical planters is in the foreground. Text reads "Casual Modern Backyard Patio Reveal.

Our backyard makeover was the largest project we took on this year next to completing our master bathroom. I spent a fair amount of time planning this and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! We have come so far on this space, believe me! Just check out the before pictures!

6. DIY Outdoor Dining Table

A wooden outdoor dining table with a modern design features sturdy block legs. It is styled with black metal chairs and three small potted plants on top. The image includes text: "DIY Outdoor Dining Table, Backyard Makeover Week 4".

As part of our backyard makeover that we took on for the spring One Room Challenge, we built a custom dining table for our patio. I will be honest, the biggest thing we had ever built prior to this was our upholstered bed, so I was pretty nervous trying our hand at a table when we were on such a time crunch. Somehow, we manged to pull it off  😉

5. Ikea Mirror Hack | Hidden Jewelry Storage

Wall-mounted jewelry organizer cleverly concealed within a mirrored cabinet door, displaying necklaces and earrings elegantly. The overlay text reads, "IKEA Mirror Hack: Hidden Jewelry Storage.

One of my goals for 2018 was to get more organized and my necklace situation was getting out of control. What can I say? I have never met a clearance rack of necklaces that I could successfully walk away from, haha! With limited space and not a lot of money, I came up with the perfect solution to keep things organized, untangled, and hidden.

4. Ikea Fniss Modern Planter Hack

Graphic showing an IKEA FNISS trash can transformed into a modern planter. The top displays two FNISS cans, one inverted over the other. Below, an outdoor patio features a sleek black planter with a lush fern, surrounded by white seating.

In case you haven’t noticed by now, I kind of have a thing for Ikea! My modern planter hack came in at number four in 2018. These inexpensive trash cans were my budget friendly solution to a tall modern planter. They also earned me a spot on Apartment Therapy’s top Ikea Hacks for 2018!

3. Small Walk-In Closet PAX Big Storage

A well-organized IKEA walk-in closet features neatly arranged clothes, shoes, and accessories. The montage includes racks with colorful garments, shelves of shoes, and a collection of sunglasses. A red chair and mirror are visible in the background.

We completed my closet renovation in 2017, but this small space continues to top my charts. Living in an older house means smaller closets, but if you plan them right, they can hold a lot more than you think! Trust me 😉

2. DIY Outdoor Sofa

Wooden planks stacked on a floor; below them, a completed outdoor sofa with white cushions and decorative pillows on a stone patio. Text reads: "DIY Outdoor Sofa Backyard Makeover Week 3." Website link: www.GarrisonStreetDesignStudio.com.

We built two of these sofas for the spring One Room Challenge where we made over the backyard. They quickly became very popular and were at the top of my most read posts. We love how they turned out and can’t wait to use them again this spring!

1. DIY Outdoor Sofa Tutorial

A DIY outdoor sofa tutorial image showcases a 3D model of a wooden sofa frame above and a completed outdoor sofa with white cushions on a patio below. The space is beautifully decorated with plants and a coffee table. Text reads “DIY Outdoor Sofa Full Tutorial," inspiring your next project.

The full tutorial on how to build our outdoor sofas was hands down my most popular post this year! People DMed me on Instagram almost daily asking when I would be writing it. You asked, and I gave it to you! If you are considering building your own they were a pretty easy build and definitely don’t blow away with our high winds here in Colorado!

Thank you all for your amazing support in 2018! I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you follow along on my DIY home design journey. I litterally could not do it without you! I wish you all a happy and prosperous 2019!
