5 Outdoor Summer Projects

With summer fast approaching, today I wanted to share 5 outdoor projects to get you ready! Yes, it did snow a little here this week, but Denver weather always seems to go from not quite spring to blazing hot summer overnight! And believe me, I am ready for warm afternoons on the patio, backyard BBQs and a little day drinking 🙂 And I am so excited to actually have some friends over this year to enjoy it with! Are you ready for some outdoor motivation? The outdoors should be an extension of your home. It can add extra square footage and a space for hours of fun with family and friends. Over the last nine years, we have worked hard to take our backyard from scary to inviting. And you can do it too with these 5 outdoor summer projects!

DIY GIANT BLOCK TOWER YARD GAME

A giant wooden block tower game is set up on a grassy yard, perfect for a summer afternoon. Balanced on a wooden crate, this outdoor game resembles an oversized version of Jenga, with several rows of large wooden blocks. Trees and a wooden fence are visible in the background.

This one is SO easy, literally anyone can do it and it’s the perfect project to kick off summer! Made from 2x4s, this DIY is also a great project to start with. This is always a fan favorite at our outdoor parties providing plenty of entertainment and friendly competition. The best part is, you still have time to make one for your Memorial Day BBQ!

DIY Outdoor Dining Table Full TutorialThe summer outdoor dining area features a wooden table with a modern design, surrounded by black metal chairs. Adorned with lush plants, the table sits on a patio paved with stones, and a wooden fence provides a charming backdrop.

Speaking of summer BBQs, what would a BBQ be without a table to eat at?! When we made over our backyard a few years ago, we built this custom dining table which was inspired by a high end and expensive version from Restoration Hardware they no longer carry. Not only has it been the centerpiece for many evenings on the patio but we built it for a mere fraction of the cost! I have shared all the details so you can build one too!

DIY OUTDOOR SOFA FULL TUTORIALA DIY outdoor sofa with white cushions and black-and-white pillows sits stylishly on a summer patio. Surrounded by lush green grass and plants, it offers a serene escape. A small shed is visible in the background. Text on the left reads "DIY Outdoor Sofa Full Tutorial.

We built two of these outdoor sofas for the spring One Room Challenge in 2018 where we made over the backyard. Like our dining table, they were inspired by a high end set  that was definitely not in the budget. So, I found a way to build them. They are a fairly easy build and you don’t have to worry about them blowing away in the wind! I have received so many messages on Instagram from others who have built these and I LOVE seeing them! Keep them coming 🙂 I also answered all your frequently asked questions in this post

Stock Tank Pool Deck Tutorial

A DIY stock tank pool with a wooden deck is set up in an outdoor summer oasis. There's a small staircase, plants, and pool toys. A person wearing a sun hat and sunglasses is relaxing in the pool. A fence and greenery are visible in the background.

Since we couldn’t travel last summer, we decided to bring the vacation to us and we put in a stock tank pool! We wanted a legit hangout spot, so we also built a deck around it. It was such a great decision! Nothing beats laying poolside, getting a little tan, and doing some day drinking. Spoiler alert, you can totally build this! I have broken it all down, step by step so you can have your very own stock tank pool deck!

DIY Fire Pit Makeover with Wood Cover

Outdoor seating area with a white cushioned sofa and a black-and-white geometric pillow, perfect for summer evenings. A stone fire pit brimming with blue and gray stones sits in the foreground. The text reads: "DIY Fire Pit Makeover with Wood Cover" and "www.GarrisonStreetDesignStudio.com".

This project came about when we decided to move the fire pit to the patio to make room for the pool. We bought this gas firepit many years ago and while it still works well, it needed a little cosmetic updating. Not to mention, I wanted a cover that would stand up to the hail we often get. If you have a firepit that is falling short of your expectations, this will help you see its full potential!
