2022 Goals and Project List

I can’t believe it’s 2022! This past year completely flew by! I feel like I blinked and it was basically over. I guess time flies when you DIY 🙂 While I accomplished a lot in 2021, I am excited to kick off a new year with a fresh start. With all the changes in the last few years, I have definitely reflected on life a bit differently and set goals for 2022 that fulfill me regardless of what is outside my control. Before we dive into this year, I want to highlight a few of my favorite projects from 2021 that did not make the list last week.

2021 In Review

This one is a double dip, the closet door makeover and my new chair swing in the bunk room! I have wanted to refresh these dated closet doors for almost 10 years, and I finally did it! And the  cherry on top is the chair swing in from of them! This is literally the best seat in the house and my favorite place to relax with a glass of wine.

A modern interior space featuring a black hanging wicker chair with a patterned pillow and a gray fringed blanket. In this harmonious project, there's a wooden sliding door with a chevron pattern, a patterned rug, and a potted plant on the floor.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I began talking about this kitchen cabinet in 2020! It was a long overdue project as the old glass front just didn’t make sense for me. I much prefer the hidden storage I now have and there are no regrets here! This was also on my goals list from last year 🙂

In this modern kitchen, a harmonious blend of white and dark cabinetry frames a stove and microwave. The speckled countertop holds a fruit bowl with apples and bananas, reflecting 2022 design goals. A mosaic tile backsplash and wooden floors complete the project, enhanced by a stylish knife block.

The pizza oven table. I know that many of you might not fully understand this one, but I must say, it makes me SO happy! I can easily wipe off the table on pizza nights now and it doesn’t look like a bag of flour exploded on the patio. And yes, we do use this in the winter! Bonus, my crazy idea of making this out of an old hollow core door actually worked!

The 2022 patio project features a cozy wooden table setup with a small pizza oven, lush plants, and a refreshing drink with lime. A letter board cheekily declares, "it's 5 o'clock somewhere," while two wooden crates add rustic charm beside the house's wood siding.

This was a smaller project I completed with the hallway makeover, but nonetheless, I love how the oversized picture frame mats turned out. In our digital age I feel like we don’t display pictures enough so I chose my favorites and made a modern gallery of family photos.

A wall with three framed black and white photos in gold frames. The wall is painted dark at the top and white at the bottom with a vertical panel design, embodying modern project goals. A potted plant sits on the floor next to a patterned rug, completing this 2022-inspired look.

Another controversial project in 2021 was the painted kitchen backsplash. My Instagram polls showed that some of you thought I was insane for doing this, but again, I have zero regrets! It is holding up great and gave the kitchen a quick modern update.

Lastly, the bunk room! I know this made the list last week (which makes me so happy!!!) but this room was a dream come true! I have wanted bunk beds my whole life and they save a ton of space in this room. Best of all, this project really challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and push my building skills to new levels. I absolutely love learning to build things and I can’t believe I actually did this!

A modern bedroom with white bunk beds against a dark green wall offers a serene setting for your 2022 goals. The top bunk has a small wooden railing and pillows. A patterned floor rug and side table with a lamp and plant add style, enhancing the room's minimalist decor.

2022 Goals & Project List

Now let’s talk about 2022! I have thought long and hard about this and narrowed it down to the projects at the top of our list.

First, if you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that we already started our first project of 2022! Our bedroom. You may recall that our room got a makeover about four years ago, but when we upgraded to a Tempur-Pedic bed this fall, it sparked several changes that I have been stewing over. If you want a sneak peak and all the behind the scenes, head over to my IG story highlights to check it out 😉

The 2022 bedroom project boasts a plush red headboard, white bedding, patterned pillows, and a gray blanket. A chevron-patterned wall adds flair. Two bedside tables with lamps and decorative items flank the bed, while a patterned rug completes this stylish retreat designed to inspire your goals.

Second, we are going to be tackling one of our biggest projects yet! The basement. If you have been following along on Instagram you know we have working on cleaning it out in preparation of finishing about half of it to use as a home gym. So not only does this project address a home improvement goal, but also a personal goal to work on our overall health. Now you all know that I wasn’t lying when I said I am a border line hoarder.  Epic garage sale coming soon!

A cluttered basement from 2022, with exposed wooden beams and ductwork, is filled for a project with items like a desk chair, a stationary bike, storage boxes, and a potted plant. Bags of paper towels and miscellaneous household items are scattered around as part of the year’s organization goals.

Third, our second guest room. This is the last room upstairs to receive a full makeover including scraping the popcorn ceilings and replacing the carpet. We had hoped for this to happen in 2021 but we simply ran out of time.

A cozy bedroom with a beige color scheme feels like the perfect retreat to ponder your 2022 goals. The bed is adorned with patterned and solid pillows, along with a fuzzy gray throw blanket. A lamp and framed artwork decorate the nightstand, while light pours in through large windows with long curtains.

Our home office. While I have worked at home for some time, I now share our home office with Barry too. After almost two years of this, we have decided the space could benefit from a few changes. While this one was on the list last year, it didn’t quite make the cut. The overall desk setup will remain, but some tweaks will be made. To be continued….

A modern home office with a white desk and chair, perfect for tackling 2022 projects. Shelves display books and decor, while two framed abstract artworks adorn the gray wall. A yellow patterned lamp and a plant add color, complementing the yellow and gray floral motif rug beautifully.

This next one is perpetually under debate, but one I am fighting hard for! The laundry room. Or should I say laundry closet? I REALLY want a legit laundry room, but we just don’t have space for that. However, I am convinced this small space with stupid slanty ceilings can be better! I think we should stack the washer and dryer, Barry isn’t on my side…..yet 😉

The 2022 laundry room project features a front-loading washing machine and dryer, with shelves above holding bins of cleaning supplies and a red laundry basket. The walls are light gray, complemented by light-colored tile flooring.

The stairs. In 2021 we tackled the stairs going to the second story, but we still have not addressed the stairs between the kitchen and the family room. My goal is to knock this project out sooner rather than later. This set of stairs doesn’t have any odd shapes like last time and there are only five steps.

A modern interior from a 2022 project showcases a staircase with cable railing leading to a loft area with chairs and a table. Below, a wooden side table displays a potted aloe plant and two minimalist wooden house decorations, perfectly aligning with the design goals of simplicity and elegance.

Lastly, my mom’s house. You might recall the kitchen makeover we did for her a few years back. Well, she has been begging for more! We sat down and talked about the wish list and I am hoping to start on her family room after the basement project is done.

Modern kitchen with white cabinets and stainless steel appliances. In this 2022 project, a dark island with two stools stands at the center, illuminated by a stylish hanging light fixture above. A plate with assorted food sits on the countertop as light streams through the windowed door.
