9 Home Organization Ideas

With the new year comes new goals. I always have an ongoing goal to be more organized, but I understand organization can seem intimidating at times. Today I am sharing 9 easy home organization ideas to try in 2022 to help simplify the process and give you the motivation that you need. There is something about cleaning out the old and starting fresh that is SO liberating! Because let’s face it, we all have at least one space around the house in need of some organization! Bonus. I am a real person with plenty of stuff! I am not the organizer that tells you to throw everything away 😉

A neatly organized closet with black and white baskets, stacks of towels, and labeled drawers showcases impeccable organization. A small plant in a black pot rests on the floor nearby. Text reads "9 Home Organization Ideas" with a website URL.

I know many people find organization to be overwhelming, but the key is to start small and work your way up! Taking on too much too soon makes you want to give up before you make a dent. Also, you don’t have to do it all at once. Take a few hours, do what you can and take a break. It will be there tomorrow. And before you know it, you will have a whole room done! Here are some of my favorite and easy organization ideas to get you started 😉

DIY COAT CLOSET ORGANIZATION An IKEA TROFAST Hack

A small closet with a black door is open, showcasing an organized array of hanging coats and two stacks of labeled plastic drawers below. A plant is partly visible in the foreground.

If you are new around here I will let you in on a little secret. I LOVE IKEA! Ok, so it’s not a secret, but I do love IKEA. They have so many affordable solutions for everyday life that are totally hackable! The Trofast is no exception. While these simple storage drawers are meant for children’s toys, they are also an excellent organization idea for a small closet. I literally have zero regrets about this project! We had SO much wasted space before but I was really able to maximize it!

EASY LAUNDRY ROOM ORGANIZATION

A laundry room with a white washer and dryer side by side exemplifies superb organization. Above them are shelves neatly holding cleaning supplies, storage bins, and laundry detergent. A red laundry basket perches on top of the washer, completing the well-lit and efficiently arranged space.

Another common problem area for many homes is the laundry room, or in my case the laundry closet. I have mentioned this before, but I desperately want to reconfigure this space. Fingers crossed it makes the cut this year, but the basement gym is our first priority. In the meantime, my easy organization ideas in here have paid off big time! I wouldn’t say I enjoy doing laundry, but it has made the task much more bearable, haha!

Spice Cabinet Organization

A pantry shelf exhibits impeccable organization, showcasing neatly arranged spices in square glass jars with metal lids. Each jar is labeled, displaying a diverse palette of spices. Larger blue containers hold additional spices on the top shelf.

If you cook, you know. This one can spiral out of control real fast! And one of my biggest pet peeves in life is having to remove everything to get to something else. This is how things don’t get put back and the problem compounds. So I did it. I bought something from an infomercial. Ok, not really, I think I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond, but the spicy shelf works!

5 Tips for Designing Your Dream Closet

A narrow, organized walk-in closet boasts clothes hanging on both sides, with neatly folded items on shelves and an array of shoes. A full-length mirror stands at the end, reflecting a red stool perfectly placed on a small white rug in the center.

This is probably my most FAVORITE organization project. My closet. It should come as no surprise, that my good old Swedish friend IKEA came to the rescue yet again! From day one in this house I wanted to re-configure my small 5×5 walk-in closet because too much space was wasted with poor planning. BUT the IKEA PAX has SO many customizable options it makes organization a breeze. Remember when I said I am a real person with lots of stuff? My closet is proof! I have 150 hangers, over 75 pairs of shoes, and 65 necklaces in here! Small closets can PAX big storage.

Easy Under the Kitchen Sink Organization

A neatly organized under-sink cabinet brimming with cleaning supplies showcases impeccable organization. Baskets hold sponges, spray bottles, and various cleaning products. On the left side, paper towels and a grocery bag dispenser add convenience in a soothing white and gray color theme throughout.

Before I tackled this project, you might have thought I was a hoarder of grocery bags and closet alcoholic with all the wine bottles I found under here. Seriously! In my defense, I think I was planning a wine bottle project I found on Pinterest but never started, go figure. Any who, this was a super easy organization idea perfect for someone who wants to start small. It only took a few hours but has saved my sanity SO many times!

Pantry Cabinet Organization

A well-organized pantry shelf showcases labeled clear containers filled with spaghetti, rice, noodles, brown sugar, biscotto, breadcrumbs, popcorn, and quinoa. Exemplifying perfect organization, gray baskets below neatly house canned goods and assorted food packages.

Back in the kitchen again, let’s talk about the pantry! The last few years have definitely changed our grocery shopping habits. We now eat almost all of our meals at home which means more groceries which equals a hot mess of a pantry. I always struggled with the organization in here because it is so deep and items often got lost in the back where they went to expire.  True story. But I finally found a way to keep our food fresher and more accessible so we have less waste. This was an easy weekend project that has saved us plenty in unexpired food!

Easy DIY Shed Organization

A small shed brimming with garden tools, a lawn mower, neatly organized shelves with paint cans, and a colorful inflatable unicorn pool float. The open shed displays a sense of organization as it reveals its tidy interior.

I know summer is a ways off, especially if you live here in Colorado, but its never too soon to get a head start on summer planning. If you are like us and have a shed, you probably play the game of the shed/garage shuffle. One gets too crowded so you move it to the other and back and forth the game goes. I finally put a stop to that and reclaimed control of our shed. This was an easy weekend project but worth every moment spent!

IKEA Mirror Hack Hidden Jewelry Storage

In a closet corner, a white jewelry organizer adds an element of organization to the wall, showcasing necklaces sorted by color. Gold, turquoise, coral, and black pieces catch the eye while adjacent clothing racks complete this stylish setup.

Let’s not focus on why I have so many necklaces but rather the genius solution I came up with to organize all of them 🙂 When we re-did my closet, I knew I needed a legit organization method for the aftermath of my clearance rack addiction that didn’t include a shoe box. Because if it’s hard to find and hard to put away, it doesn’t stay organized! Shocker, it includes another piece from my Swedish friend 🙂

Linen Closet Organization with IKEA Trofast

A neatly organized closet showcases shelves with folded towels, patterned baskets, and clear storage bins. Emphasizing organization, a potted plant adds greenery to the space. The dark closet door contrasts beautifully with the white frame.

This large linen closet is both a blessing and a curse at the same time.  Pro, it has lots of space . Con, too much space makes you think you can hoard crap you don’t need. However, I think I found the perfect compromise here with the IKEA Trofast! Are you noticing a theme here? When you find something you love you stick to it, am I right? But seriously, this has been LIFE changing!
