Vintage Tool Chest Turned Side Table

Nothing makes me happier than re-purposing something I already own and that is exactly what I did with this Vintage Tool Chest Turned Side Table. Ever since I took on the challenge of making over our living room for zero dollars, I have been on a mission to update the rest of our main living areas. If you follow me on Instagram you have see some previews of my recent family room makeover (more to come on that soon). During this makeover I transformed a vintage tool chest into a modern side table which I am going to share with you today.

A few years ago my dad handed down a vintage tool chest to me. He had refinished it several years back for my step mom to use as jewelry storage but she no longer needed it. Since I had always admired it, he offered it to me. When I said yes I knew I had no real plan for it, but I had faith I would figure it out eventually. Like all the other items I have collected for future use/hoarding, down to our basement it went.

The chest boasts a dark, polished finish and rests elegantly against a light-colored wall on a flat surface. It collected dust on a shelf for several years and glared at me every time I passed it. One evening after I spruced up the family room, I remembered the tool chest and this stool I previously used under my desk. That’s when the light bulb went off. I was no longer using the stool because I switched to one of my poufs I made for our backyard makeover, so I could put both items to use if I combined them! Win. Win.

It sits gracefully on a dark wooden surface against a light-colored wall, reminiscent of a well-crafted tool chest from bygone eras.I started by detaching the seat of the stool from the base. I originally purchased the entire stool from HomeGoods, but you can buy a set of hairpin legs if you don’t have something similar lying around.A simple black metal plant stand with a vintage touch, featuring a circular frame and three hairpin legs on a concrete surface.

Then I turned the tool chest upside down and positioned the stool base on the bottom of the tool chest. I used the same screws I removed from the stool seat to attach the base to the tool chest. An upside-down stool with a circular metal frame and four legs rests on a vintage wooden surface. 1. I absolutely love it. I have a metal chest similar to yours, perhaps I can do much the same to it. Thanks for the idea.
