Modern Christmas House Tour 2018
Hello everyone! I was hoping to share this with you yesterday, but with the passing of our dog last week my focus has been a bit off. Nonetheless, today is the day. Better late than never right? If you follow me on Instagram, you have already seen sneak peeks and some behind the scenes of my Modern Christmas House Tour 2018, but today I am sharing it all right here!

Last week, I mentioned that I aimed to simplify my decor this year. We all know the holiday season can be a bit overwhelming. Between decorating, shopping, parties, and travel, there are so many things to do and only so much time to do them. Depending on your style and motivation, decorating can take a lot of time to not only put up, but also take down. But I am here to tell you it doesn’t have to be that way and less is more! So let’s start this Christmas tour so I can show you what I mean 😉
The Living Room
I only added a touch of Christmas to this room, with only six pieces of holiday decor. I think it’s just enough to create a cheerful vibe.
We relocated my newly up-cycled vintage tool chest to make room for the big Christmas tree downstairs. Rather than adding a full size tree to this room, which would take forever to put up and take down, I added this table top tree that only took me 5 minutes to decorate! More on this DIY next week 😉
My Ikea side table also got a tree which I snagged on sale at Crate and Barrel on clearance last season. This season’s version is already on sale! I have linked it at the bottom 😉
The buffet table also got a dose of Christmas trees and my favorite Noel sign making a repeat appearance from last year.
To add a little Christmas to this end table, I simply removed the flowers from this silver vase and replaced them with some winter sprigs. Total time estimate, 30 seconds!
The Dining Room
The dining room received a two part change. If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories, you know I recently refinished a wood bench in our family room which now resides where this faux leather bench used to sit. I have been toying with the idea of changing the seating in the dining room so I am experimenting with it in here. I must say, it is growing on me. The second change is the addition of a few more Christmas trees 🙂 The two on the ends were actually used on the fireplace last year but I gave them a little touch of snow this year with some white yarn. You can see more on that in my archived Christmas Decor Insta stories.
The Kitchen
I’ll be honest, I really don’t like a bunch of things on my kitchen counters, so the decor in here has been confined to the built ins and the kitchen table. A few gold stars and a table top tree is all this room needed. More on the tree next week 😉
The Family Room
This is the room we spend most of our time in and as a result has the majority of our Christmas decor. For the most part, I maintained the normal style of the room and just swapped out accessories for Christmas decor with the obvious exception of our 9 foot Christmas tree.
I kept the tree decor simple and used gold, silver, and black bulbs surrounded by the cozy faux fur skirt.
I love that we finally have a proper mantle now as well as faux logs! It made decorating the fireplace this year so much more exciting! I used many pieces I had last year but in different ways. While the faux fur tress are not new to the fireplace, the white ceramic trees were used in the dining room last year.
The bookshelf also received a few touches of Christmas with two mini white tress and a HO HO HO printable.
I chose to hang my faux fur Christmas wreath above the sofa with a command hook this year instead of the front door.
A simple black tree and another printable top off this side of the room.
The art on the wall was also updated to reflect the holiday season with a Christmas tree printable. You can get yours here.
I kept the bookcase simple with another printable and some modern wood houses.
After Dark
I normally take all of my photos during the day with only natural light, but because Christmas lights are half the festive ambiance, I decided to snap a few after dark to give you the full affect.
