Modern Master Bath Renovation Reveal

Hello my fine friends! It is the moment you have all been waiting for, the master bathroom reveal! Ok, so you probably forgot we were working on this because it took us WAY too long to finish it, but I was reminded every day when I had to use our guest bathroom, haha! It has actually been done for about a month now, minus the shower glass, but I couldn’t hold out any longer.

I was hoping to have shower glass in before I wrote this, but life has been nuts and honestly it may be a little while before we get to that, so today is the day! I will do an update once we have glass, don’t you worry! 😉 In the meantime, we will be showering with our dollar store shower curtain I cut to fit our half wall. If you want to check it out head to my archived bathroom reno stories on Instagram.

Because its been a while since we talked about this renovation, let’s recap. My original wish list included the following.

  1. New tile floor
  2. New vanity and countertop
  3. New lighting
  4. New Faucets
  5. New tile shower with frameless glass
  6. Remove wall between vanity and toilet
  7. Add wall between vanity and bedroom
  8. Add sliding barn door between bedroom and bathroom
  9. Add sliding barn door to closet
  10. Reconfigure my closet

For a refresh, here is a side by side comparison of the before and after. No more swinging doors! The image shows a bathroom renovation. The "before" section features a narrow space with dark walls and a single vanity, while the "after" section showcases a modern design with white walls, double vanity, round mirrors, and an open shower.Top image: A dated bathroom with a cluttered counter, large mirror, and standard fixtures labeled "Before." Bottom image: A modernized bathroom with minimalist decor, featuring round mirrors, sleek lighting, and clean surfaces labeled "After.I’m not going to go into ALL the details as to why it has taken us so long to finish because you would probably get bored, but just know we only actually worked on it for about four months. Here are a few construction shots to give you an idea of what all happened. A bathroom under renovation with exposed wooden framing, electrical wiring, and plumbing. The space is partially drywall-covered with tools and materials scattered on the floor. A new shower area is being constructed in the corner.A partially renovated room with bare walls and exposed insulation panels. The ceiling has recessed lighting, and the floor is unfinished. A thermostat is mounted on the left wall. The space appears to be under construction or in a remodeling phase. A narrow, partially constructed room with unfinished walls. Two pipes protrude from one wall, likely for plumbing. A bright ceiling light illuminates the space, and a ladder is visible in an adjacent room.

So what all did we do? Maybe the better question is what didn’t we do, haha! 😉 The closet doorway moved over. We built a wall between the bedroom and the bathroom. We took out the sofits that made the bathroom feel like a cave. We removed the wall between the vanity and the toilet. We scraped the popcorn ceilings and had all the drywall patched and re-textured. New electrical was added for additional outlets and lights. The plumbing for the sinks moved from the floor to the wall. We expanded our shower about 8 inches so we could add a seat to the back wall. And just to clairify, we hired out all the plumbing, drywall, and electrical, but everything else we did ourselves including scraping the ceilings (this is oddly satisfying), framing, tiling and finishing work. During this same time, we were also redoing our master bedroom by adding new wood flooring, a shiplap accent wall, DIYing our new bed and re-configuring my closet. Here is a visual of the floor plan change. Two bathroom layout diagrams labeled "Original Layout" and "New Layout." The original has extra space behind the shower, sitting area is added in the new layout. Both include a shower, vanity, closet, and half wall. Now the bathroom is done, and we love it! It’s so nice to have our own sinks again and no carpet in the bathroom! Seriously, what were they thinking putting carpet in a bathroom?Modern bathroom with large tiles and a walk-in shower featuring herringbone-patterned tiles. The cabinetry is white with gold handles, and the floor is dark.

I have had a few questions about the vanity on Instagram and unfortunately the answer is a little complicated, but here you go. We bought a floating 80″ vanity (just the white cabinet) from Wayfair, but I wanted to customize it a bit. So I swapped out the brushed nickle pulls that came with it for square gold pulls and we built a wood frame to go around the vanity to give it a little MCM vibe. We had the countertops fabricated locally.

In the shower we laid the white wall tiles vertically to draw your eye up and make the ceilings feel taller.

I finally got my hidden niche! I love that I can stash all my products in here and you will never see them from the rest of the bathroom! Because lets be honest, I am not one of those people that transfers all my shampoo and such into pretty bottles.

  1. Clean and neat, love your reno. You did a great job and it is not the same as so many others. You added unique details. I like that your shampoo can be kept out of sight.

    1. Thank you so much Debbie! It’s so sweet of you to say. I really appreciate that! 😊 The hidden niche has been a dream of mine for years!
