When the holidays roll around, I always have a sudden urge to style my food and come up with pretty displays, usually heavily inspired by the latest Crate and Barrel catalog. But let’s be honest, to style your entire holiday party with their beautiful tableware could cost as much as Christmas itself. So I took a page from their modern farmhouse stylings and created a simple, high style cake stand to display your holiday food. You ready to get started? Two smiling women stand in a modern white kitchen with pendant lights, embodying a chic DIY vibe. A cake with a slice cut out sits on the counter between them, alongside two small bundt cakes. One woman holds a plant in a decorative pot, adding to the contemporary charm.

DIY Modern farmhouse Cake Stand Supplies

Wooden Charger Platter
Metal Geometric Cube
Leopard Print Pumpkins
Drill
Screws
Washers
Painters Tape
Screwdriver
Tape measure
Safety Glasses

A DeWalt cordless drill, blue painter's tape, pink safety glasses, a screwdriver, a drill bit, two screws, and a metal square are arranged on a white surface, perfect for any farmhouse-inspired DIY project.

Step 1

Purchase or up-cycle a wooden plate or tray and a metal cube like this one I used. The geometric cube will be the base of the cake stand and should have a flat bottom on at least two sides. I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby while it was on sale for 50% off.A round wooden tray, reminiscent of a modern cake stand, holds a geometric metal sculpture on top, elegantly placed on a white surface.

Step 2

Attach the base to the plate by first measuring the diameter of the wooden plate and mark the center point on the back of the tray.A round wooden board, reminiscent of a farmhouse aesthetic, is placed on a white surface with a yellow measuring tape stretching across its diameter, measuring approximately 12 inches.

Position the metal cube in the center and mark two spots to drill pilot holes for the screws. This should be done on the back side of the plate.  A geometric metal sculpture sits on a wooden round tray that doubles as a cake stand, next to a pencil with an eraser, placed on a white surface. The design studio name is subtly engraved on the tray.

Carefully drill your holes. I chose to drill pilot holes to prevent the wooden plate from cracking. Before drilling, make sure your drill bit is positioned as short as possible. If the drill bit still extends longer than the depth of the plate, use a piece of painters tape to mark your stopping point. This is important because you do not want to drill through the plate!A yellow and black cordless DeWalt brushless drill set rests on a wooden surface, evoking a modern farmhouse vibe, with blue tape adorning the drill bit. The words "Hearth & Hand with Magnolia Wood Salad Bowl" are elegantly engraved on the wood, perfect for any DIY enthusiast.

Attach the base of the cake stand to the wooden charger. I used a long screwdriver that reached through the cube to attach the base to the plate with the screws and washers. I used painters tape to hold the base in place while I tightened the screws. A geometric metal sculpture taped onto a wooden board with blue painter's tape, evoking a rustic farmhouse charm, is accompanied by a screwdriver. Nearby, on the white surface, a roll of tape hints at this creative DIY project.A geometric metal cage shaped like a diamond sits on a rustic, farmhouse-style wooden surface. It has blue tape on it, and there are two screws inside. The visible text on the wood reads "Garrison Street Design Studio." This piece could easily double as a unique DIY cake stand centerpiece.

Step 3

Flip your cake stand over and enjoy! See, I told you it was easy 😉 For around $20 you can have this unique cake stand to display all your holiday goodies and impress your guests without breaking the bank!A display featuring a black vase with green foliage behind a wooden pedestal holding a black and tan checkered pumpkin. Beside it, two smaller leopard-print pumpkins rest on a modern cake stand, adding a farmhouse charm to the geometric setup.
