DIY Fabric Art
I have been DIYing for a long time and when I first started out most of my DIY was done to save money, now it’s done out of addiction 🙂 I recently saw this amazing fabric at JoAnn’s and I fell in love! I had no idea what I would use it for, but I needed it in my life. I also was yearning for some new art in the dining room. Epiphany, frame the fabric!
DIY Fabric Art
This was not my first time creating my own art or framing something nontraditional. I often did this when on a tight budget, but this time, I really just couldn’t find what I wanted. Not that I really knew what that was, it’s just kind of one of those things you know when you see. Well this was it!I waited until the fabric was 50% off and I bought half a yard. Now I needed to find some frames so naturally I headed to my mother ship. Home Goods. I swear, it was destiny when we choose our house. Home Goods is only 10 minutes away! Anyway, it was my lucky day. I found two matching square frames with a nice thick matte for only $14.99 each!
When I got home I laid out the fabric before I cut it and positioned the matte on top to make sure I captured the area of the design I wanted for my art.Once I had it just right, I cut the fabric and taped it to the back of the matte.
Then I did the same thing for the other frame only positioning the fabric slightly different to capture a varied design. This gave the pair a complementary “set” look.
This is what the walls looked like before I added the DIY Fabric Art.
This is what it looks like now.
This was a super simple project that you could re-create with almost anything. Scrapbook paper, wrapping paper, place mats, maps, etc. And for only $45, it’s budget friendly too!

Thank you for giving me the inspiration I needed to look elsewhere for just the right wall decoration. Ray and I have spent countless hours in art galleries looking for something new to hang in our kitchen with no success. Now, I’m heading to fabric and paper stores for other ideas. Wish me luck!
Thank you so much Lynnie! I am so glad I could help. Best of luck to you on your search 🙂
What a great idea! I love it! Such a relative easy way to capture fabric that also holds a special memory too =D
Thanks Nel! I had not thought of that, but yes, a great way to display a memory too!
