When the holidays roll around, I always have a sudden urge to style my food and come up with pretty displays, usually heavily inspired by the latest Crate and Barrel catalog. But let’s be honest, to style your entire holiday party with their beautiful tableware could cost as much as Christmas itself. So I took a page from their modern farmhouse stylings and created a simple, high style cake stand to display your holiday food. You ready to get started?
DIY Modern farmhouse Cake Stand Supplies
Wooden Charger Platter
Metal Geometric Cube
Leopard Print Pumpkins
Drill
Screws
Washers
Painters Tape
Screwdriver
Tape measure
Safety Glasses
Step 1
Purchase or up-cycle a wooden plate or tray and a metal cube like this one I used. The geometric cube will be the base of the cake stand and should have a flat bottom on at least two sides. I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby while it was on sale for 50% off.
Step 2
Attach the base to the plate by first measuring the diameter of the wooden plate and mark the center point on the back of the tray.
Position the metal cube in the center and mark two spots to drill pilot holes for the screws. This should be done on the back side of the plate.
Carefully drill your holes. I chose to drill pilot holes to prevent the wooden plate from cracking. Before drilling, make sure your drill bit is positioned as short as possible. If the drill bit still extends longer than the depth of the plate, use a piece of painters tape to mark your stopping point. This is important because you do not want to drill through the plate!
Attach the base of the cake stand to the wooden charger. I used a long screwdriver that reached through the cube to attach the base to the plate with the screws and washers. I used painters tape to hold the base in place while I tightened the screws.
Step 3
Flip your cake stand over and enjoy! See, I told you it was easy 😉 For around $20 you can have this unique cake stand to display all your holiday goodies and impress your guests without breaking the bank!
Step 4
Head over to The Marble Kitchen to learn how to make this gorgeous chocolate mocha cake to display on your new modern farmhouse cake stand! I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon shooting this edible art with my friend Tara.
But the most blissful part of my day was when I shoveled that first bite of chocolaty goodness into my mouth! Let me just say it was to die for! It was just the right amount chocolate and sweetness with layered bits of mocha. You seriously MUST try it!
Step 5
Impress your holiday guests and let your mother-in-law believe you are a true domestic goddess. Let’s face it, this is the real win!
Don’t forget to stop by The Marble Kitchen to get the full recipe for this beautiful and delicious chocolate mocha cake! Tara makes incredibly tasty desserts and you will not be disappointed.
