The Undeniable Power of Paint

The power of paint is real and I am one of its biggest cheerleaders! When I first started my DIY journey, paint was my best friend. I didn’t know how to build things yet or use power tools, but a paint brush was accessible, cheap, and had a small learning curve and I dove in head first. Now my early days of painting were not quite as refined, think every shade of the rainbow, but I quickly learned it was a fast and easy update no one should be afraid of.  After years of DIY and the addition of many  tools, I still believe paint is a powerful tool without a switch. 5 Reasons to believe in the power of paint 

1. It can have a huge impact
2. It’s cheap
3. It has a small learning curve
4. It’s quick 
5. It’s easy to change

But don’t let me convince you, the proof is in the paint. Let’s take a look at some of my biggest transformations with paint. 

The Exterior Paint

I want to start with this one because it is literally the very first thing you see when you arrive at our house but so many people forget about the outside. I was never really a fan of the exterior of our home because the colors felt so dated and definitely did not reflect our modern style. By painting the orangey brick and choosing simple black and white colors, the outside definitely reflects our modern style now. All done with the power of paint! The Wet Bar Paint

Our house was built in the 70s and there were definitely some strong signs of that when we moved in, like the wet bar.  While we did replace the faux leather countertops it came with, the biggest change was achieved with paint. The best part is, I painted it with paint I already had so it was basically a free upgrade! Did I mention I also painted the light fixture? True story! The Fire Pit

Paint is not just for walls. Let me say that again. You can paint almost anything and our fire pit makeover is a prime example of that! We bought this fire pit years ago and it was really starting to show its age but it worked fine otherwise. So I decided to make it fit with our modern outdoor aesthetic by painting it. Once again, I used paint I already had so it just required a small time investment.  

The Kitchen Paint

Not only did we paint the walls in the kitchen, but the cabinets and the backsplash were painted too! When we moved in, the cabinets  were in good condition and we liked the layout, but the colors had to go. The pink tones were just not our style so we updated the space with white cabinets and a dark island. More recently I decided to change things up and paint our backsplash too.

Furniture Paint

I have been painting furniture since my college days and let me tell you, it’s a great way to get a high end look for less. While I have painted many pieces of furniture, these are two of my favorites. The credenza was a FB Marketplace find and the side table was a hand me down from my dad. Both were a bit tired and in need of a modern twist so my paint brush and I made that happen! You can read all about it here.

The Front Door

Not only did I paint our front door, but I made it taller with paint! This was not 100% intentional, but it turned out so good. Our ceilings feel so much taller now and it was an easy makeover. You can read about that here.

 

The Hallway Paint

For many years I was in the habit of completely ignoring hallways, but those days are over! I have to say, they have become a favorite space of mine to tackle now. This hallway in particular was flat out boring, bland, and totally dated. By adding two tone walls the hallway feels so much bigger now, all with the power of paint. 

The Painted Fireplace

I saved this one for last because it might just be my favorite! One of the things I fell in love with in our house is the 14 ft vaulted ceilings in this room. But I never liked the fire place because of the ugly brick but I did like the asymmetrical idea of the fireplace. Once again paint came through like a champ and completely changed the entire look and feel of this room. The ceilings feel even taller now with the dark Iron Ore on top.
