Kitchen Shelf Styling with Free Printable

When we first bought That 70s House I was very overwhelmed by the built in shelves in our kitchen. I had never accessorized at that level in a kitchen before. I only owned one cook book and all the other items I kept in the kitchen were not “shelf worthy”. I mean who wants to see my toaster styled in my open shelving? Ummmm, no one. Split image showcasing a kitchen shelf transformation. Top image: cluttered shelves with various items and a plain, round table. So I spent some time combing thrift stores for cook books and HomeGoods for accessories. I eventually filled them, but I never really loved them. I was working with an incredibly dated kitchen and trying to marry ALL the colors going on in the upholstered bench seat with the awful orangey cabinets and pink countertops. This modern kitchen, once a dated 90s space, now boasts wooden cabinets, a center island with two stools, and sleek stainless steel appliances. A decorative fruit bowl adds charm under warm lighting, enhancing the cozy atmosphere. In the background, there's a view of a dining area. A cozy dining nook exuding a dated 90s kitchen charm features a round table with four chairs. The built-in bench has a cushioned seat and a large pillow. Shelves on either side showcase decorative items and books, while a hanging light fixture brightens the green walls.

So when we were finally able to give the kitchen a refresh, I was over the moon excited! It was like night and day! And I loved my new white kitchen! Bright and inviting, this modern kitchen showcases a stunning makeover from its dated 90s origins. Featuring sleek white cabinets, a central island with bar stools, and a cozy dining area with metal chairs around a round table, expansive windows flood the space with natural light over the polished wood floor. A dated 90s kitchen makeover brings new life to a bright nook, featuring a round table with metal chairs, a cushioned window seat, and built-in shelves with colorful decor. A modern pendant light hangs above the table, giving the space a cozy and organized feel.

The shelving however, still didn’t feel right to me. But, I didn’t think it was worth addressing until I could have the cushion re-done. Well, I finally found a fabric I liked and I set the wheel in motion for it to be recovered. Buh-bye dated 90s tapestry! I seriously hated that fabric.

I had collected a few new accessories in the mean time from places like TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Ross, and Hobby Lobby. I spent less than $40 on all of them so I felt pretty good about my new purchases. The cook books felt like a natural fit for a kitchen, but there was just too much color going on. So I turned them around, spine in. I know, I know, this might make me a psycho path according to the internet and book purists but I promise you, these are purely decorative so I feel like I am exempt 🙂 A shelf displaying neatly aligned books held upright by a metallic pineapple-shaped bookend. The books vary in height and color, adding a touch of vibrancy to the clean, white shelving. Then I shopped the house a bit. As I have mentioned before, I may have a slight decor hoarding problem. So I rummaged through some things I had and found some extra frames and vases. At some point I picked up a few 8×10 frames from Ikea for another project, but I never got around to it, so I decided to use them here. I framed a wine printable I made and a photo copy of a pineapple from a piece of scrapbook paper I found at Hobby Lobby. Since the pineapple is protected by copyright, I can’t offer that to you as a printable, but I have added a similar pineapple printable to my library 🙂 You can get both of yours for free hereA framed artwork with the word "Wine" and "Made from Magic Grapes" displayed on a shelf. Next to it, a decorative wooden wine bottle shape with "Zinfandel" cut out. The setting is a white shelving unit. A white shelf displays a framed black and white pineapple sketch and a wooden sign saying "vino." Books are partially visible on the shelf above.

I managed to keep a few items in addition to the cook books, including a large round plate and a grey ombre vase I swapped from another area of the house. I also reused a tall red vase and paired it with a cutting board and my pestle and mortar which previously lived in a cabinet. A decorative plate with concentric circle patterns is displayed on a black stand atop a stack of books on a white shelf. Next to it is a translucent gray vase. The shelf has an arched top design. A wooden shelf displays a red glass vase, a stack of colorful books, a round wooden cutting board, and a white marble mortar and pestle. The arrangement creates a clean and minimalist aesthetic. On the last shelf I added a letter board and a gold wire pineapple basket. The letter board has been a fun addition and I try to change out the sayings every few weeks 😉 A white shelf holds a maroon vase, a wooden cutting board, a mortar and pestle, and stacked books. A letter board reads, "When technology brings us tastagram I will be impressed." A wire pineapple decor and more books are on the lower shelf. Lastly, our cushion received a MAJOR face lift with a neutral gray fabric. It completely changed the feel of the space! And since I actually like it now, I added some pillows I had hiding out in the basement. I know, shocking that I had extra pillows in the basement, right 😉 A cozy dining nook with a round table and modern chandelier. The bench seating by the window is adorned with gray cushions and pillows. Shelves hold decorative items, including a "Vino" sign and books. Sunlight filters in through the window.I am finally happy with these built in shelves that only took me six years to get right!
